Deze vier peilers (preventie, detectie, respons, risico) zijn de pilaren waar een CISO op acteert. Dat maakt de functie en rol complex. Je moet in staat zijn om heel mens gericht bijvoorbeeld aandacht te besteden aan security awareness, maar je moet ook begrijpen waarom een Security Informatie en Event Management systeem (SIEM) cruciaal is voor goede monitoring en detectie. Dat alles moet in het licht van de bedrijfsdoelstellingen ingeschat en afgewogen worden. Welke risico’s ben je als bedrijf in staat te lopen en waar moet je absoluut maatregelen tegen nemen. Daarom zal een CISO veelal rapporteren aan verantwoordelijken op het hoogste niveau binnen een organisatie.[/bsf-info-box]
